An Analysis on Parity Progression Ratio of Korean Women .

An So-Young
Abstract
The fertility of Korea has been measured by various method, but estimation of the fertility by parity progression ratio has never been attended in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the fertility of Korean women by parity progression ratio.
The data necessary for this purpose were obtained from the 10% sample survey of the census in 1966 and 1970 conducted by Economic Planning Board, Republic of Korea.
the brief summary of the findings is as follows:
¥°) Parity progression ratio and birth probabilities decline with age of women ( Table 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2).
¥±) Women in rural area have higher parity progression ratio and birth probabilities than those in urban (Table 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4).
¥²) More educated women group has much lower parity progression ratio and birth probabilities than less educated women (Table 4-1, 4-2).
Author concluded that if there are enough series of surveys which have repeated collecting the same information, it is not only easier to obtain available data for longitudinal analysis by cohort with this method, but also more complete and accurate fertility of Korea can be measured.
